Young Man Style

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Boys are getting more and more interested in fashion and they are starting really young. Do not get left behind, it is always a good idea to tune in to some basic fashion principles that work for all ages but especially for the younger set.

Mixing and Matching

This is one area where boys should probably be reeled back in a little. Teenage boys tend to get a bit carried away when picking items to mix and match. One thing to remember here is never to mix patterns; stripes will never go with plaids or any other print. If you are wearing a patterned shirt make sure it is paired with a solid pair or pants. Another thing to remember is to match shoes and belts.

Comfort and Style

Never compromise comfort for style or you will end up looking out of sorts. If you are purchasing a new outfit do not just pick them out of the rack and straight to the cashier. Most boys make the mistake of buying shirts or pants just by looking at the size. One should take into account the fit as there are some styles and cut that look great on some and totally wrong on others. You have to be spot on when it comes to what looks good on you. Feel the fabric, try it on and then decide.

Dress Appropriately

Even youngsters have social calendars. You might be asked to attend your sister’s wedding but not have a part in the ceremonies just as you might get an invite to a pool party. There are social events that require anywhere from formal, semi-formal, casual and rugged. Plus there are your everyday clothes for school and for play.

While there are no absolute fashion rules for teenage boys, it will be quite prudent to stick to some time tested clothing traditions just to be on the safe side.

Teenage Hair Loss

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Hair loss is an uncommon occurrence for teenage boys, but there are quite a good number of youngsters that experience this very unsettling condition and they do not have the first idea of how to deal with it. The best way to deal with it is to know what is causing it. The most telling sign that this would be a challenge at an early age is genetics. If all the men in your family are losing volumes of their hair then there is a fair chance that you might lose your hair as well. If the hair loss is less than half of your entire hair volume, it is a good sign that it will grow back to normal.

There are also some cases where medication would have to be taken or applied to the bald spot. Tinea Capitis is one condition that can plague teenage boys. In layman’s terms, this is scalp ringworm, a fungus that can cause hair loss in patches. It is unsightly and contagious and should be treated immediately with anti-fungal topical medicines and certain shampoos.

Another hair loss condition is Traction Alopecia, which occurs more commonly in teenagers as it is caused by using too much hair styling products and too much hair treatment. So you may want to ease up on excessive hair style changes, too much hair drying and daily grooming with gels or mousses. Sometimes it could just be poor hygiene.

Be sure to have a healthy hair care regimen. You do not need hair styling gel everyday of the week. If you do indeed find that you are losing your hair fast, do not try to self-medicate and go straight to the doctor for consultation.

Hot Hairstyles for Teenage Boys

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Teenage boys have always been very particular when it comes to their crowning glory. Some of them spend a small fortune on hair styling products and treatment. They also spend a good amount of time each day achieving that perfect look before going out to the world. In an age where personal appearances seem to count a lot, every teenager wants to have the latest hairstyle or at least the one that looks great on them.

One of the most popular is the spiky look. Spiky hair is achieved with the use of gel or mousse. It takes some practice to perfect it what with all the partitions, the combing and the gel application involved in the process. Then there is the shaggy hairstyle, the cut is usually designed to frame the shape of the face. This style has been seen on popular Hollywood teenage stars like Zac Efron. Layering gives more volume and allows for different styles. Throw in a few highlights and you have completely changed your look.

Another look that is popular and has been around for a while is the semi-bald look or the shaved head. Think David Beckham or Eminem, these icons have perpetuated this comfortable and low-maintenance hair style. No frills, just a great head and an open face. You have to remember though, that these are the requisites for this hairstyle, a good shaped head and a clean face.

Whatever style you choose, make sure it is something you will be comfortable in. If not, well, you can always grow it back and try something else.

Room Decorating Tips for Teenage Boys

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Your room should be your sanctuary, the one place you can totally let go and be yourself. It should also be a reflection of your personality. It should speak volumes about what you like to do, your accomplishments and all the other things that matter to you. This is the first area where you can express your independence so decorating it and maintaining it should be of paramount importance. Being a young man, you would be very particular about your personal space. You will definitely need a room with good vibes, from the colors to the beddings and the storage space for all your stuff.

While not all of us can have a walk in closet with endless space for shoes and accessories, one should at least have a space for clothes in hangers plus some drawers. Pick a bed that would not take too much space especially if your room is small because you want to set aside a corner for your school stuff and your hobbies. You have to have a few sets of beddings, sheets, pillowcases and mattresses and remember to change them every so often. You also want a hamper for soiled clothing.

Organize your stuff for easy access. Put your hobby stuff in one corner and your school stuff in another. Your study table is the right place for your laptop or personal computer, your school books and other materials. Your hobby space would be where your game console, television set, guitar and sporting equipment are. There are great ideas on how you can lay out your stuff to maximize your space. Check out interior design magazines or go online to check out some of these cool designs.

Asking Someone Out for the First Time

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

First times are always the hardest and sometimes the most painful, and it is no different when a teenage boy asks someone out on a date for the first time. People just tend to put a lot of pressure on this subject, so much so that young men get confused over what the best way is when it comes to asking a girl out. There are no hard and fast rules for this, unfortunately and most of it will need a lot of playing-by-ear. But if you know how to read the signs and if you have just the right amount of confidence then you are all set.

So you have found someone you want to ask out but you do not know the first thing about her. You have your homework set then. Try to learn something about her, what does she like to do, which group is she a part of and what interests her. Then try to move closer to her circle and subtly let on that you are indeed interested. Treat this like a temperature check or testing the waters, from being with her in a group you will know for sure if she is inclined to reciprocate your interest.

If you are able to obtain a positive response from your efforts to get close, start mapping out your first date even before asking her out. The actual asking is the easy part, making the date memorable may take some work as it will always be about making a good impression. The best tip is to keep it simple and real, think of something that you both like doing, whether it is watching a movie or bowling. The point is to get to know each other but also to have fun in the process.

Everyone loves a good plan, so when you finally do the asking make sure you are clear on what you have planned for the two of you. Check if it is something she might enjoy doing and be flexible to suit her preferences. Remember, it’s her date too.
