Boys are getting more and more interested in fashion and they are starting really young. Do not get left behind, it is always a good idea to tune in to some basic fashion principles that work for all ages but especially for the younger set.
Mixing and Matching
This is one area where boys should probably be reeled back in a little. Teenage boys tend to get a bit carried away when picking items to mix and match. One thing to remember here is never to mix patterns; stripes will never go with plaids or any other print. If you are wearing a patterned shirt make sure it is paired with a solid pair or pants. Another thing to remember is to match shoes and belts.
Comfort and Style
Never compromise comfort for style or you will end up looking out of sorts. If you are purchasing a new outfit do not just pick them out of the rack and straight to the cashier. Most boys make the mistake of buying shirts or pants just by looking at the size. One should take into account the fit as there are some styles and cut that look great on some and totally wrong on others. You have to be spot on when it comes to what looks good on you. Feel the fabric, try it on and then decide.
Dress Appropriately
Even youngsters have social calendars. You might be asked to attend your sister’s wedding but not have a part in the ceremonies just as you might get an invite to a pool party. There are social events that require anywhere from formal, semi-formal, casual and rugged. Plus there are your everyday clothes for school and for play.
While there are no absolute fashion rules for teenage boys, it will be quite prudent to stick to some time tested clothing traditions just to be on the safe side.
